Real Salt Lake Forward Douglas Martinez Called Up for Honduras U-23 National Team

HERRIMAN, UTAH (Thursday, February 16, 2021) – Real Salt Lake forward Douglas Martinez has been named to the Honduras U-23 National Team for an upcoming micro cycle from February 18-26, during which the team will play a pair of friendlies against Costa Rica.
The call-up is the latest this year for Martinez, who has been participating in several other micro cycles as the team prepares for CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship next month in Mexico. Honduras will face Canada, El Salvador and Haiti during the Group Stage with the first match on March 19. The winner of each of the two qualifying groups will make the semifinal match.  The two teams who reach the championship match will automatically qualify for this summer’s Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan.
Martinez is entering into his third year with Real Salt Lake. During his first full season in 2020, the forward scored two goals in 18 appearances. In 2019 Martinez led Real Monarchs to its first-ever USL Championship trophy, scoring 17 goals in 25 matches, earning himself a spot with RSL along the way.

Real Salt Lake opens training camp on March 8 with the 2021 MLS regular season scheduled to kick off on April 17.
