RSL Re-Signs Goalkeeper Andrew Putna

HERRIMAN, Utah – (Friday, January 8, 2021) – Real Salt Lake has re-signed goalkeeper Andrew Putna ahead of the 2021 Major League Soccer season, the club announced today.

“First and foremost, I love Andrew’s work ethic,” Head Coach Freddy Juarez said. “He understands hard work and that says everything about what RSL is. He comes early, he leaves late. Now he’s a proven quality goalkeeper in the league who is going to continue to grow.”

Originally signing with RSL as the seventh player from Real Monarchs in July 2018, Putna now enters his fourth year with the MLS side. During the abbreviated 2020 season, Putna featured in 15 matches for RSL totaling 1350 minutes played while making 38 saves. In total, Putna has registered 1,935 minutes in goal across 22 matches played, earning a 7-9-5 record.

Originally drafted in the third round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, 48th overall, he made 74 appearances in four seasons with the University of Illinois-Chicago, going 41-24-8 with 30 shutouts and a 1.05 goals against average.  A two-time Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year, Putna captained the Flames in his junior and senior seasons.

“I’m excited to be back with the organization for my fifth season,” Putna said. “I can’t wait to help RSL on and off of the field for the coming year.”
