Monarchs to Close 2020 Season Sunday Against El Paso

HERRIMAN, Utah (Wednesday, September 30, 2020) – Real Monarchs (3-9-2, 11 points) fell 1-0 to New Mexico United on Wednesday in the club's penultimate contest of the abbreviated 2020 season. Wednesday's match was presented by MarketStar, the team's jersey-front sponsor.

For the first time this season Monarchs were able to hold New Mexico United's attack at bay during the first half and despite multiple chances from both sides, the teams headed into the locker room locked at 0-0. Real Monarch’s best shot at goal came from Dayonn Harris who hit a shot flush across the face of goal, missing by mere inches.

New Mexico United broke through the Monarch’s defense in the 57th minute when Jimmy Slayton collided with Josh Suggs at the top of the 18-yard-box, the preceding ball flew through the air to Joris Ahlinvi who headed it in on an open net.

Towards the end of the second half Monarchs went on the counter attack and had several chances at goal, but were unsuccessful in defeating New Mexico goalkeeper Cody Mizell, and the match ended in a 1-0 loss.
