Real Monarchs Fall to El Paso Locomotive 2-1

EL PASO, Texas (Saturday, August 29, 2020) – Real Monarchs dropped a 2-1 result to El Paso Locomotive FC at Southwest University Park.
Forward Kyle Coffee scored his second goal of the season, but goals from defender Brent Kallman and midfielder Bryam Rebellón were enough to give Locomotive FC the full three points.
The match started aggressively, in the 15th minute, Monarchs defender Taylor Peay saw a headed attempt on goal saved by goalkeeper Logan Ketterer. Not long after, Monarchs midfielder Dayonn Harris sent a crossing ball into the box toward Coffee who buried a shot into the back of the net in the 26th minute, but the goal was called back for offside. In the 41st minute, Locomotive FC forward Omar Salgado found himself with an open net opportunity and fired a shot toward goal, but a racing Harris recovered to clear the ball off the line and the half ended scoreless.
Locomotive FC started the second half on the front foot and took the 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute with a header across the face of the goal and into goal by Kallman. The Monarchs responded in the 81st minute when Coffee fired the equalizing goal past the keeper, but the score would not be level for long. With the match tied at 1-1 in the 86th minute, Monarchs defender Noah Powder mishit an attempt to clear the ball out of the box and Rebellón curled the loose ball past the goalkeeper and inside the left post for the game-winning goal.
