Rio Tinto Stadium Upgrades for Fan Experience in 2020

The 2020 season has arrived, and Real Salt Lake is coming home. The club begins the home portion of its 2020 campaign in Major League Soccer against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

Here are a few things happening around Rio Tinto Stadium that fans should be excited about and take note of:

Clear Bag Policy

Rio Tinto Stadium has moved to a now common industry standard “Clear Bag Policy” that will help fans enter the stadium quicker, as well as increase the safety of the stadium. Bags can be screened more quickly by not having to open the bag to see the contents. However, if many contents are in the bag, it may still need to be opened if all items cannot be easily identified from first glance. This new policy still follows the MLS Bag Policy, where all bags must be smaller than 14” x 14” x 6”.

Clutch/Handheld (non-clear) purses are welcome, but nothing with a shoulder strap. At this time, we are not restricting the size of the clutch purses. Additionally, clear “ZipLock” style storage bags are also welcome into the stadium if fans do not have a clear bag.

Electric Vehicle Chargers

As part of the club and stadium’s efforts to be a “green” organization, Rio Tinto Stadium has added electric vehicle chargers to the West Parking and the Maverik Lots.

Recycling Program

Rio Tinto Stadium is adding to its pre-existing recycling program by adding more receptacles and additional sorting procedures to maximize the total volume of recyclable output. This program is made possible by the ongoing partnership with Atlas Disposal – a leader in modern recycling technology and programs.

Tifo Pulley System

A new pulley system is being installed over the south end of the stadium for the supporter groups to display TIFOs (large banners). When fans join the RIOT, they will experience an immersive tailgate culture and collaborative tifo events and have the opportunity to learn and take part in stadium-wide chants. Each home match also includes a March to the Match that is open to all fans.

Flash Seats Ticket Integration into the MLS Mobile App

Fans can now access their digital tickets via the MLS App. By clicking the “club” button on the app, there is an option to access your digital tickets after logging in with their Flash Seats login username and password.

New Stadium Bar

All fans ages 21+ are welcome into the newly renovated bar to enjoy beer, wine and spirits on a first come, first served basis. Located adjacent to the Interform Club on Level 2 on the west side of the stadium, the bar provides a pub-like atmosphere to experience matchday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

ADA guests can access the club via the West Elevators in the middle of the West Concourse

Concession Stand Upgrades

Fans will notice a new look to all the concession stands when attending events in 2020 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Menus, products, décor, kitchen equipment, que lines, and more have been changed or upgraded over the offseason to improve the fan experience for guests of Rio Tinto Stadium. The East Plaza will be open at halftime and includes food trucks.
