Utah Royals FC Signs Defender Taylor Leach

UTAH ROYALS FC SIGNS DEFENDER TAYLOR LEACH
Veteran of Swedish leagues adds depth to URFC backline 
SANDY, Utah (Monday, January 6, 2019) – Utah Royals FC has signed defender Taylor Leach, adding depth to the backline ahead of the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League season. Per league policy terms of the agreement were not disclosed. 
“After Sam Johnson’s retirement last season, we’ve been on the lookout for an additional center back that could bring some knowledge, experience and grit to our back line,” General Manager Stephanie Lee said. “We were excited to find Taylor, and that she’s agreed to join Utah Royals FC.” 

Leach, 27, comes to Utah after spending the last four years overseas in Sweden. Most recently she was with Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC where she spent part of the 2018 season playing alongside new Royals FC teammate FW Christen Press. During her nearly three years there Leach recorded six goals and three assists in 86 appearances. Additionally, she helped the club qualify for their first UEFA Women’s Champions League birth in over five years.  


Prior to that Leach spent a season with Östersunds DFF in the Swedish second division, where she scored two goals in 14 matches. In 2016 she began her European professional career with Sunnanå SK during which she added two goals in 13 games played.


Leach spent her college years at the University of South Carolina, scoring six goals in 86 matches with the Gamecocks. The defender was recognized as a member of the First-Team All-SEC for her junior and senior seasons.
