URFC Trio Shines for U.S. in Kickoff to World Cup Celebration Tour

The United States Women’s National Team lit up the field against the Republic of Ireland as the party continued in celebration of their victory at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, winning 3-0 over The Girls in Green.


Utah Royals FC’s tro of Americans were in the starting XI for the Red, White and Blue.


DF Kelley O’Hara played the first 45 minutes and recorded an assist, FW Christen Press played 62 minutes and contributed assists on two goals and DF Becky Sauerbrunn played the entire match at centerback.


The FIFA World Cup Champions got off to a fast start when Press sent in a cross from the left side of the box directly to the head of Portland Thorns FC midfielder Tobin Heath for a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.


In the 31st minute Press played a hand in yet another goal when she made a cheeky back heel flick off a pass from North Carolina Courage midfielder Sam Mewis to the feet of Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan to double the lead.


Press’ two assists on the night were her 31st and 32nd internationally.


Just 10 minutes later Carli Lloyd found the back of the net with an assist from O’Hara to give the United States their third and final goal of the match.


The U.S. will continue its tour on August 29 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and on September 3 at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota, facing Portugal in both matches.
