Real Salt Lake

RSL was able to claim a hard-fought road point on Saturday when it played to a scoreless draw with FC Dallas in Frisco, Texas. RSL had several chances to score in the match but it was a staunch defensive effort that earned RSL the draw against Dallas. In the match on Saturday, Rimando earned his 150th career shutout, his 114th in an RSL uniform. On July 6, Rimando became the first player in MLS history to reach 500 career appearances. 


DF Justen Glad made history against FC Dallas on Saturday night by becoming the first RSL Homegrown player to appear in 100 regular season matches for the club. Since signing with RSL in 2014, Glad has appeared in 100 matches for the club, 98 of which have been starts. He has tallied two goals and one assist in 8765 minutes played.


The RSL goalkeeping duo of Rimando and David Ochoa will spend the first half of the week in Orlando, Florida partaking in MLS All-Star festivities. Ochoa was named to the annual MLS Homegrown match roster that will take on Chivas de Guadalajara U-20s in the sixth annual Homegrown game on Tuesday, July 30. The match will begin at 3:00p MT at Disney’s Wide World of Sports facility in Orlando.


The following day – Wednesday, July 31, Rimando and the rest of the MLS All-Stars will take on Atlètico Madrid at Exploria Stadium in Orlando for the 2019 MLS All-Star Game. He was selected as one of Commissioner Don Garber’s two picks for the All-Star team.  Rimando, 40, is Major League Soccer’s all-time leader in wins (216), shutouts (150), games played (503) and saves (1671).  In addition, he won MLS Cup in 2004 with D.C. United and 2009 with Real Salt Lake, earning MLS Cup MVP honors for Utah’s first professional sports championship.The match will signify Rimando’s ninth All-Star selection.


RSL returns home to Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday to host the New York City FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on KMYU and streamed on the KSL TV app and KSL.com, with radio coverage on ESPN700.

Utah Royals FC

Utah Royals FC is 5-5-3 (18 points) after falling to defending National Women’s Soccer League champion North Carolina Courage on Saturday night in Sandy by a 2-1 scoreline. FW Christen Press scored her third goal of the year in the loss – her second in as many matches. Saturday’s loss marked the first time URFC has lost to North Carolina in five all-time meetings with the Courage.


MF Vero Boquete returned to the starting lineup for URFC after missing the last month due to an ankle injury suffered on June 15 against Sky Blue FC. She set up Press’ goal in the 13th minute to mark her third assist of 2019.


URFC now travels to face the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, August 3 at SeatGeek Stadium in Chicago. The match will be the first of two trips to the Red Stars that URFC will face this season. The match can be seen live on the KSL TV app beginning at 6:00p MT on Saturday.

Real Monarchs SLC

On Saturday, Real Monarchs SLC fell 3-1 to San Antonio FC at Toyota Field in San Antonio in a match that saw MF Luis Palma score his first goal for the club in the loss. The defeat halts the team’s six-match unbeaten run that saw it shoot up the USL Championship Western Conference table and into playoff position. The loss also sees the team’s winless run in San Antonio extend with the team having not claimed victory in San Antonio since 2016. The Monarchs now return home for a match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Friday, August 2 for the second Pups at the Pitch Night of the 2019 season. FW Douglas Martinez remains with the Honduran U-23 side for 2020 Olympic qualifying and the Pan American Games. Martinez and Honduras topped Nicaragua 5-0 in an aggregate scoreline in two matches for Olympic qualifying. The team now sets its sights on the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru where it will face Jamaica, Uruguay and hosts Peru.

 This week RSL Unified members Margaret Quinn and Wes Liddle will be representing Real Salt Lake at the MLS unified all-star Wednesday. 


Community MVP voting ends Wednesday at 11:00 MT. Jennifer Gilson is representing Real Salt Lake for her work in San Juan County. If she wins Wells Fargo and MLS works will donate $25,000 towards San Juan County High School soccer programs.
