Nick Rimando made two saves in Real Salt Lake’s 2-1 win over Atlanta United FC on Friday. Those saves gave Jefferson Savarino the opportunity to score the winning goal in stoppage time on a stunning strike from 20 yards out. They meant three points for Real Salt Lake against the defending MLS Cup champions and three consecutive wins.
Those two saves – one in each half – meant much more than that though.
They also meant Allstate, Univision Deportes and the RSL Foundation would donate $2,000 to the Sugarhouse Boys and Girls Club as part of the Every Save Makes a Difference program.
“It’s always fun playing in these games because not only do I have an opportunity to help my team but also help raise money and awareness to a great community center,” Rimando said before the match. “As parents you always want a safe environment for your kids and the Boys and Girls club continue to give our community such.”
Rimando previously raised $6,000 through the Every Save Makes a Difference program in the MLS Cup Playoffs last season.
