Real Monarchs
Head Coach Martin Vasquez
On positives to take away:
“I thought we had an excellent start. A very good start. In previous games we didn't help ourselves by not having a good start to the game. We did a better job. We didn't work hard enough to keep the 2-0 lead and - at least going into to halftime - to make adjustments to come out to close out the game in the second half. We have to give credit to Phoenix they are a very good team. We had the chance to help ourselves. We created chances and that's a positive because we put ourselves in very good spots to score another one or another two goals. When you don’t do that the other team has a chance to break you down and make mistakes then you get punished. You don’t get the result you want to.”
On the impact of RSL players on the team:
“Good! They are quality players. They have the experience. They don't have the rhythm. They don't have that match competitive fitness. They came in and help us with their quality. You know they obviously that this is one of the games where they come in and bring out the quality in all of us but we weren't able to get the result.”
On the mid-week match up in Portland:
“We got to keep our head up and continue to work hard. We got to go there and come out with a strong mentality with confidence that we can go there and get the result. That is going to be our approach.”
Defender Andrew Brody
On the positive the team can take from the game:
“I think we did a lot of things well. I thought we created a lot of chances. We just went over how we beat them in stats in literally everything but goals for and goals against. We had most of the ball, created the majority of the chances. I think there’s positives to take. Another big one on Wednesday, just got to bounce back for that.”
On the mentality heading into the Portland match:
“This game that we just played, it’s over. On to the next one to another good team in Portland. We won’t put our heads down; we’re going to keep fighting and try to get a result.”
