AUSTIN, Texas – (Friday, April 26, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC (3-3-2, 11 points) fell in its first trip to the Texas capitol, dropping a 3-2 result to Austin Bold FC on Saturday night.

MF Tate Schmitt picked up his first professional goal while FW Douglas Martinez tallied his first Monarchs goal in the loss.

Although the first half saw the Monarchs dominate the possession, Austin found two goals inside 12 minutes to jump to any early lead. The Monarchs would then cut the lead in half in the 19th minute as Schmitt picked up his first professional goal with a volley that Austin goalkeeper Diego Restrepo got a touch to, but deflected into the back of the net.

Austin Bold FC again regained a two-goal lead, giving Austin the 3-1 lead at the half. Prior to the half, Austin saw red as Valerii Saramutin tackled with his studs up through MF Jack Blake, giving the Monarchs a man advantage for the second half.

Real Monarchs found a single goal through several chances in the second half via Martinez, who picked up his first goal in the Monarchs jersey with a simple tap in. Real Salt Lake GK Alex Horwath made an appearance after suffering a season ending injury last April, playing the full 90 minutes while FW Luis Arriaga made an appearance after subbing in during the 84th minute.

The Monarchs fought to find the tying goal to steal a point away from Bold FC, but it wasn’t to be as the match ended 3-2.

SLC: Alex Horwath, 35th minute: Sean McFarlane, from the edge of the box, rifled in a shot that looked to dip just below the crossbar to extend the Austin lead. Horwath had other ideas as he punched the ball up and over the crossbar.
