Real Monarchs SLC Rolls Past Reno 1868 FC 3-1

claimed its second consecutive home victory on Saturday afternoon, topping Reno1868 FC 3-1. FW

The Monarchs started the match with a powerful display as GK
David Ochoa
made his mark on the match right away, saving Corey Herzog’s penalty with ease, setting up the momentum for the Monarchs to attack just minutes later through Chang, who drove home the first goal to the far post.
The Monarchs attack continued its push early on as some quick and creative passing within the attacking third set Plata up to fly one into the left corner and double the Monarchs lead. Ochoa closed out the first half with a fingertip save to keep the Monarchs up by two going into the break.
The Monarchs opened up the second with the same fire that dominated the first, as Blake slipped the third goal in past Reno goalkeeper James Marcinkowski. In the dying moments, 1868 FC shifted gears, pulling one back through a volley from Aiden Apodaca, but it was not enough to stop the Monarchs, as the home side walked away with the three points.  entered in the second half of play, making his professional debut.

Real Monarchs takes its first trip down to Isotope Park in Albuquerque to play its first match in the newly created Four Corners Cup against expansion side New Mexico United. The matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, April 13.

Maikel Chang expertly chested down a cross from James Moberg, and flicked the ball around the Reno defense, creating the space he needed to drive a low show to the far post, giving the Monarchs an early lead.

A deflection in the box gifted Apodaca with a chance, which he took advantage of by blasting a volley past GK David Ochoa into the top left corner, pulling one back for the Nevada side giving it ultimately its only goal of the match.
