Katie Bowen Called to New Zealand for Cup of Nations Tournament

SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, January 29, 2019) – Utah Royals FC DF Katie Bowen has been called to the New Zealand Women’s National Team for the Inaugural 2019 Cup of Nations tournament, held in Australia ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. New Zealand will face Australia in its first match, on February 28th, 2019 at Jubilee Stadium in Kogarah.

“Congratulations to Katie. It’s an incredible honor for her, and well deserved as New Zealand spends the next several months preparing for the World Cup,” Utah Royals FC General Manager Stephanie Lee expressed.

New Zealand will appear in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup held in France, facing Canada, Cameroon, and the Netherlands in Group E.

Bowen received her first call-up to New Zealand when she was 14-years-old and was called up to play in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and became the youngest player to represent the Lady Ferns. She made her senior team debut in 2011 and currently owns 56 caps and three goals with New Zealand.

The Cup of Nations will migrate to Brisbane, where Argentina and New Zealand will go head-to-head at Suncorp Stadium on March 3rd. New Zealand will play its final match against Korea Republic and conclude the tournament on March 6th, at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

Bowen started 16 of her 19 match appearances and earned one assist for Utah Royals FC. URFC heads into its second season as a member of the National Women’s Soccer League. Bowen is expected to rejoin URFC prior to the commencement of the 2019 preseason.
