RSL Closes LA Trip with Scrimmage Win over Pateadores U-19s

On Saturday, Real Salt Lake concluded its first preseason trip of 2019 in Los Angeles with a scrimmage against the Pateadores U-19 squad.  After four rigorous days and six training sessions on the UCLA campus, the scrimmage was a welcome change of pace and an energized RSL side scored three goals while conceding none.

The scrimmage was split into three 30-minute periods, with Head Coach Mike Petke integrating players throughout the different lineups.

After a scoreless first period, Tate Schmitt scored early in the second period, bringing down a ball from the left side before thumping a shot from the edge of the 18 that found the net.  In the middle of the second period, Pablo Ruiz crossed a ball in from the right side and amidst a scrum in the box, it deflected off a Pateadores defender and in for an own goal.

In the third period, Albert Rusnák took advantage of a giveaway in the box and slipped it to Kyle Coffee in front of the open net for the third goal of the day for RSL.

Real Salt Lake returns to Utah on Saturday, with training resuming at the Zions Bank Real Academy on Monday.
