Utah Royals FC
Head Coach Laura Harvey

On Saturday’s tie:
“I just said to the players at the end there, if we would have played with that much grit and heart and determination that we did after the lightning break, I feel like the game would have been different. Credit to Sky Blue, they were by far the better team for fifty-five minutes. The lightning break definitely helped us, and you know credit to the players, they never stopped going, they never stopped pushing. I just said to them then, we believe we have to win three games to get into the playoffs, but it’s the NWSL. You never know, so we have to keep pushing until the end and try and hopefully get another six points on the board.”

On the talk during the weather delay:
“As a staff we just said this is it, this is your season. You’ve got thirty-five minutes of your season left. You can pull a result out of this game. Then you never know what can happen. Thankfully they just kept grinding until the end and honestly if we scored before we did, I think we could have gotten a third.”

On the substitutions:
“Sam came on to make us go three at the back so we could push more bodies forward. Get Christen and A-Rod even higher. And yeah, just going for it honestly at that point. Thankfully we could get that goal in the end.”

On the 2-2 result:
“Pretty frustrated to be honest. We just discussed it then, if we would have come out with that bite and that grit like we did after the delay, I think it would have been a completely different game. Obviously we have to get points to make the playoffs, you don’t know what’s going to happen in this league. So we needed a point at the minimum, and thank goodness for Amy Rodriguez and that goal. But yeah, frustrated because I thought we could have come away with more.”

On Sky Blue’s performance:
“I think it was two good goals by Katie Johnson, good finishes. But I think we just didn’t come out with passion and determination to get three points. Like I said, it came to us having a thirty-minute delay with the lightning to then come out and think our season’s on the line we need to get to work. I would say our lack of pace moving the ball hurt us, but we got the point so that’s what we have to live with.”

On the team discussion during the weather delay:
“I think it was just basically like tactics out the window if we don’t come with passion and pride. Obviously Sky Blue were trying to get their first win and they played with pride tonight and we didn’t match that in the first fifty-five. It was basically just our season’s on the line and we have to get points and go out there and do work or otherwise it’s over.

On facing Washington Spirit Wednesday:
“I think we have to watch footage on Washington. Obviously we just played them, so I think we have to watch that game back and see what worked for us, what didn’t work for us. Again, we just have to come out and know we have to get three points if we want to be in this playoff race.”
