SANDY, UT (Friday, August 10, 2018) – Utah Royals FC (7-6-7, 28 pts., NWSL 6th place) will host HC Laura Harvey’s former club for the third and final time in 2018, TOMORROW, Saturday, August 11, at Rio Tinto Stadium. The match against Seattle Reign FC is broadcasted nationally as Lifetime’s NWSL ‘Game of the Week’, with Greg Wrubell and Carla Haslam on the call locally via ESPN700 AM.
These teams have met twice this season, the first resulting in a scoreless draw at Rio Tinto Stadium (June 27), and the second a 1-0 win for the Reign at Seattle’s Memorial Stadium (July 11). The most recent match saw a second-half goal from USWNT star and 2018 FIFA Women’s Player of the Year nominee, FW Megan Rapinoe, who converted on a corner-kick header in the 54th minute.
The Reign arrive in Salt Lake in second place with a record of 9-4-6 (33 pts., NWSL 2nd place). Seattle is unbeaten in their last seven games, surging into second place behind North Carolina, leading by five points a pack that also includes Orlando, Portland, Chicago and Utah in the race for the final three 2018 NWSL Playoff berths.
Utah Royals FC - unbeaten in its last three - seeks its third win of the week Saturday, with FW Katie Stengel scoring game-winners in both Wednesday’s 1-0 home win over Washington and last Sunday’s 2-1 comeback win at Houston. Following Saturday’s fort-ever “same-day” doubleheader with Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium, URFC heads east for road games at Sky Blue FC (August 18) and at Washington (August 22) in its continued inaugural season “Playoff Push.”
