Sauerbrunn & Moros Named to NWSL Team of the Month

As members of the strongest defensive backline in the NWSL, Becky Sauerbrunn and Becca Moros have contributed substantially to Utah’s stellar play in the month of June – qualifying them for the NWSL “Team of the Month”. Having played almost every single minute this season, the two bring an experience and leadership to the pitch that is unparalleled. With wins against the undefeated N.C. Courage, and ten points in just five games, Sauerbrunn and Moros have been chosen to be a part of an elite group of women.

Breaking It Down

  • With the exception of her time away with the USWNT, Captain Becky Sauerbrunn has played every single game of the season this year, totaling 1170 minutes through the first-half of the 2018 campaign. She also played a crucial role in solidifying the clean-sheet against the undefeated N.C. Courage in mid-June, allowing her team to bag the epic 1-0 win.
  • Becca Moros also had an exceptional month, finding success against some of the best strikers in the league. After leading her team in attempted tackles this month, Moros continues to demonstrate a tactical and technical style of play developed during her years of playing overseas.

Head coach Laura Harvey on Sauerbrunn: “Becky is like the Ronseal of the team – you know, the varnish that keeps your wood from getting wet – she protects the team and you know exactly what you’re going to get. She is a great defender, leader, reads the game well, and is never out of position.”

Head coach Laura Harvey on Moros: “She can play multiple positions...predominately an outside back...she was at Kansas City for a couple of years, but prior to playing in the NWSL, she played in Japan for a couple of seasons...and playing in Japan allowed her to play a possession-oriented style that seems very natural for her now. She is a veteran with quick feet, experienced, good pro.”
