HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, June 26, 2018) – Real Monarchs SLC (12-3-1, 37 points, 1 West) held off Western Conference foe Fresno FC 1-0 in front of 1,812 fans at Zions Bank Stadium on Tuesday night. With the win the Monarchs move to an undefeated 7-0-1 (22 points) in its new Herriman home during the 2018 season.
The match started with the Monarchs immediately applying pressure and found the go-ahead goal from an unlikely source in DF Andrew Brody. The goal was Brody’s first of the year proved to be enough to hold firm for the rest of the match.
Making his Monarchs debut in the second half was MF Jack Blake who arrived on loan from the Tampa Bay Rowdies a week prior and nearly scored three minutes after entering the match. The second half momentum swung in the favor of the Monarchs favorably after an onslaught of Foxes attacks that GK Connor Sparrow thwarted, when Fresno midfielder Jemal Johnson was shown a red card in the 70th minute. From then the Utah side would hold firm defensively while nearly doubling its advantage on multiple occasions with the match ultimately ending with a 1-0 scoreline.
UP NEXT: The Monarchs head to Nevada to face Reno 1868 FC on Tuesday, July 3rd for the first time in 2018. Kick off is set for 8:30 p.m. MT from Greater Nevada Field.
SLC: Andrew Brody (Chandler Hoffman) 8th minute: After a bit of clever interplay in the attacking third from the Monarchs saw Hoffman receive the ball at the top of the area from Brody. After a give-and-go between the two, Brody found himself steaking in on goal and cleverly side-footed a shot past Fresno goalkeeper Kyle Reynish for the winning goal.
- Four Real Salt Lake first team members earned the start for the Monarchs against Fresno as Connor Sparrow, Aaron Herrera, David Horst and Jose Hernandez all started for the USL side.
- The win was the Monarchs seventh win this season that it has won by just a single goal.
- With the 1-0 win over Fresno, the Monarchs have now earned eight shutouts in 2018.
