SANDY, Utah (Thursday, April 25, 2018) — Utah Royals FC welcome Australian midfielder and standout Katrina Gorry, who is just returning from playing with the Australia WNT in the AFC Women’s Asia Cup. Gorry, who played in almost every game of the month-long tournament, helped the Westfield Matildas qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, set to take place next summer in France.
Bringing experience from leagues in Asia, Australia, and the United States, Katrina “Mini” Gorry moves to Utah with a resume full of accolades, such as the 2014 NWSL Cup, 2014 Asia Football Confederation’s Player of the Year, and 2014 Australia Player of the Year. The five-foot phenom is moving from her hometown of Sunnybank, Australia, where she starred for the Brisbane Roar in the Australia W-League. The Queensland product has been playing at the international level since she was a teenager, currently holding 68 caps and 14 goals for the “Matildas” (the nickname given to the Aussie Women’s squad).

Head coach Laura Harvey on Gorry:
“Katrina is a player that I have watched for a few years now, she has experience of playing in the U.S. with FC Kansas City. Since she was here, she has gone away and developed her game further, and now together we felt it was the right time for her to come back to the league…She has improved tremendously since 2014 and has grown into who she is now. She is a star for the Australian national team, so I am really excited for her to get here. Katrina has proven she can play anywhere in the world and I’m excited to get her back to the NWSL.”
