Three Days Left. Three Platinum Songs.

On Saturday, April 14, the Mix 105.1 and Broadway Media will be hosting the URFC home-opener concert, starring triple-platinum recording artist, Rachel Platten. This international singer and song-writer will not only open with the national anthem, but will offer a post-game concert at the stadium to all who attend the Utah Royals FC vs. Chicago Red Stars match (kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. MT).
Platten, the author of Billboard’s Top 100, “Fight Song,” will be the first female to perform at Rio Tinto Stadium -- and will be the first home national anthem singer for Utah’s first female professional soccer team. Named by TIME magazine as the “torchbearer of women’s empowerment,” Platten will come to Salt Lake with gold-certified, Emmy winning songs in her musical arsenal.

With just three days left before the home opener, and three Platinum records to her name, here’s three things you need to know about some of the Rachel Platten songs you'll hear on Saturday, April 14.
1.Fight Song
Platten says she wrote her famous “Fight Song” while going through a difficult time as an aspiring singer and songwriter. She says she initially wrote the song for her own self-esteem -- for a time where she “needed to remember to believe in myself.” Platten did not originally intend for the song to reach a public audience, but after seeing the amount of hope and inspiration that it offered, decided to pursue it on a national scale. Just 72 hours after it aired on the radio, Platten signed with a with a major label.
“And I got to do it all because of this song that I wrote when I was in one of the darkest places of my life,” Platten said in an interview with ABC.
2.Broken Glass
Inspired by the 2017 Women’s March, Platten wrote “Broken Glass,” as a way to demonstrate that humanity is more powerful when men and women are united. Platten believed that even in the hardest of times, people can offer light. “Broken Glass is my rallying cry of release, healing, excitement, hope, and joy,” she wrote in a personal essay to Refinery29, “Feeling suffocated by limitations, and striving to overcome them, is not just a struggle we face alone; we feel this collectively.”
3.Stand By You
After its release in 2015, “Stand By You”, hit the billboard charts with lyrics of empowerment, love, and acceptance. The song contrasts the evil and bad in the world, with emotional images of patience and tolerance. Platten used the song as a way to encourage the world to accept others as they are, and to allow the devastated hearts of humanity time to heal through love and friendship, “If your wings are broken, borrow mine, so yours can open too, ‘cause I’m gonna stand by you.”
