Real Monarchs Face Tough Preseason Test at Reno 1868 FC

DAVIS, California (Tuesday, March 4, 2018)Real Monarchs SLC is set to play its second match of its preseason trip to California with a match against regional rival Reno 1868 FC on Wednesday. Kick off for the match is set for 7:00 p.m. MT from Greater Nevada Field.


The Utah side faced Reno 1868 FC on three occasions in the 2017 regular-season, winning all three contests by a combined 10-4 margin. In its last match against Reno 1868 FC on September 17, the Monarchs walked away from Greater Nevada Field commanding 3-0 victors after three second half goals solidified the win.


Reno 1868 FC dominantly played the 2017 season as the highest scoring team in the United Soccer League having scored 75 total goals as it finished the regular-season with a +36 goal differential.


Last Saturday, Reno 1868 FC fell to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in Reno, giving up a fifth minute goal, ultimately falling 1-0. The match against the Monarchs will be Reno’s final tune-up match before its season-opening tilt against Swope Park Rangers on March 17.


Having thrashed Sacramento State University last Saturday by a 4-0 score line, the Monarchs will play its second game in five days when it visits Reno. Goals from Juan Ignacio Mare, Rick Lopez-Espin and Brooks Lennon spelled victory for the Monarchs against Sacramento State while goalkeepers Connor Sparrow and Andrew Putna split the shutout in goal.


The Monarchs will open its 2018 regular-season against Tulsa Roughnecks FC in Week 2 of competition, having received a bye week during opening weekend.
