Academy sides earn draw, win against Barca Academy

The Real Salt Lake Academy sides returned home from Casa Grande, Arizona after taking on the Barca Academy over the weekend, with the U-17s coming away with a 1-1 draw thanks to some late-game heroics while the U-19s left Arizona with a 6-0 win.


The matches saw the RSL Academy sides return to Casa Grande for the first time since moving to the Salt Lake Valley earlier this year and the sides showed well at its old stopping grounds. The U-17s were led by FW Ben Ortiz who notched his sixth goal of the year after tucking home his penalty kick in the 73rd minute. GK David Ochoa helped solidify the draw in goal, saving a penalty kick in the 78th minute to secure a point for the visitors.


The U-19 side walked away from Arizona 6-0 victors as FW Sebastian Soto notched two goals in the win, with DF Steve Jasso and MFs Glademir Mendoza, Jordan Pena and Zahir Vasquez all earning goals in the win. GK Jacob Jackson played the full 90 minutes in goal for the U-19s, earning the shutout.


Next up for the RSL Academy will be a visit from San Diego Surf on Oct. 28 with the coming weekend used as a bye-week. The matches on Oct. 28 are set to kick off at 11:00 a.m. MT with the U-17s beginning proceedings and the U-19s set to follow shortly after at 1:30 p.m. MT at America First Field.
