Reno, NV (Saturday September 30, 2017)

Real Monarchs
(19-5-6, 63 points, 1

st
Overall) earned its second road win of the week thanks to second-half goals from FW Chandler Hoffman, FW Juan Mare, and FW Daniel Haber. This is the second consecutive match that Hoffman and Mare have found the back of the net, while a defensive effort backstopped by GK Andrew Putna also earned a clean sheet and saved another PK for the second game in a row.
Midway through the first half, center official Malik Bawadi called for a handball off of Monarch DF Taylor Peay, awarding Reno a penalty kick attempt. Reno FW Antoine Hoppenot looked to convert, aiming for the low corner, but Monarchs GK Andrew Putna denied the opportunity. Reno 1968 would continue to receive chances throughout the game, even hitting the crossbar, but the highest-scoring team in USL history did not find the back of the net.
The Monarchs brought a new spark to the second half. In the 47th minute, Monarchs MF Charlie Adams found himself some space on the wing, giving him time to look up and find the head of Monarch FW Chandler Hoffman. Hoffman's momentum gave him just enough time to head the ball into the back of the net for his club-high 16th goal of the year. The game would continue to be competitive, with both teams receiving opportunities in the attacking third.
In the closing minutes of the match, Monarchs FW Juan Mare and FW Daniel Haber also found goals. In the 86th minute, Haber pulls three Reno defenders, giving Juan Mare an open lane to goal. Haber's distribution into the box allowed FW Juan Mare to take a first-time shot on frame. Mare returned the favor moments later, assisting Haber's goal in the final minutes of the match.
UP NEXT:
The Monarchs will return home to Rio Tinto Stadium next Saturday for a matchup against the Vancouver Whitecaps 2. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm MT. The last time the two teams met was in May in British Columbia, resulting in a 2-1 win for the Monarchs.
