Real Monarchs beat Sacramento Republic, 2-0.

Sacramento, CA (Wednesday September 27, 2017)Real Monarchs (18-5-6, 60 points - 1st West/1st Overall) rode early second-half goals from FWs Chandler Hoffman and Juan Ignacio Mare and a stoppage-time penalty kick save from GK Andrew Putna to end four-game winless run.

Midway through the first half of action, the game began to open up and chances were created. The best chance of the first half for the Monarchs came 25 minutes into the match, when MF Danny Cruz sent a ball towards the back post in search of Hoffman but Republic FC goalkeeper read the chance well and collected the cross.

The second half started fiercely as two goals in the first four minutes flipped the game on its head when Mare opened the scoring when he tapped in his own rebound in the 47th minute, before Hoffman clipped home his 15th of the season just two minutes later.

Putna wasn’t called upon much in the match, but in stoppage time he was asked to earn his shutout in a big way, denying Republic FC forward Samuel Ochoa a goal, stretching to his left to bat away the PK as the game ended 2-0.
UP NEXT: The Monarchs will remain on the road for a quick turnaround matchup at Reno 1868 FC at Greater Nevada Field with kick off set for 8:00 pm MT. The match will be the third time the two teams have met this season, with the Monarchs winning the previous two meetings by a combined score of 7-4.
SCORING SUMMARY:

SLC – Chandler Hoffman (Max Lachowecki), 49th minute: A half chance volley back into the box from Lachowecki skipped through everyone near the top of the area and found the run of Hoffman. Hoffman hit the ball out of the air first-time to loft it over the keeper for his 15th of the year.

KEY SAVES AND DEFENSIVE STOPS:
