SANDY, Utah (Wednesday, May 10, 2017) – Real Monarchs SLC (5-1-0, 15 points, 2nd West) continue their 2017 USL season TONIGHT at LA Galaxy II (8:30 p.m. MT kickoff; WATCH on RSL.com) in the first of two games this week, before returning home Saturday to host 2014 USL champions Sacramento Republic FC at Rio Tinto Stadium at 7:30 p.m. MT. Tickets are still available at the venue’s Sandy box office or by clicking www.RSL.com/Monarchs.

Ten days ago, the Monarchs earned a gritty 2-1 home win over Swope Park Rangers, as goals from FW Chandler Hoffman and DF James Moberg gave the club a 2-0 halftime lead, while a late save on the line by GK Connor Sparrow ensured that the Monarchs captured the full three points. The win over Kansas City’s USL side was the second straight for Head Coach Mark Briggs, the Monarchs rebounding on April 22 from its first loss with a dominant 3-1 road win at Seattle, as Hoffman – the club’s leading scorer with four goals in six games – notched a goal and an assist in the victory, while RSL MF Jose Hernandez provided what proved to be the game-winner.

Two weeks ago, the club signed former Creighton Blue Jay and RSL Academy product DF Riggs Lennon to round out the 2017 roster.  Lennon, 21, is the older brother of current RSL FW Brooks Lennon.

Riggs played the 2016 season with Creighton University, sharing the team-lead with 10 goals in his senior season.  Previously, he played at the University of Virginia through his junior season, where he notched seven goals and five assists in 47 matches over three seasons.  A forward throughout his college days, it is expected that he will play as a defender with the Monarchs.

Early April saw the Monarchs win twice at its Rio Tinto Stadium home, scoring a club-high five goals in a 5-3 win over expansion side Reno 1868 – including four first-half goals – on the heels of an April 1 win by a 2-0 scoreline over Phoenix Rising FC in the first game with new Head Coach Mark Briggs in charge.

Saturday’s contest kicks off a run that sees the Monarchs play three of its next four at home, with only a May 10 trip to LA Galaxy II breaking up the April 29 Swope Park visit and the club’s May 13 game against Sacramento Republic FC (7:30p MT) and the May 20 contest against Colorado Springs (7:00p MT). Season Tickets for the Real Monarchs third season in 2017 are now on sale; please call 844.Real.Tix for more information.

Coming in late Summer, 2017, Real Salt Lake's regional training center opens in Herriman, Utah, approximately 20 minutes southwest of Rio Tinto Stadium. The $60 million facility will serve as the daily training home beginning in 2018 for both of the club's professional teams – RSL (MLS) and Real Monarchs (USL) – while centralizing the club's U-18, U-16 and future U-14 development academy youth selections. The Herriman campus will provide adjacencies for an on-site charter school opening this Fall, with STEM disciplines (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) for nearly 300 boys and girls.

In mid-November in North Logan, Utah, RSL Owner Dell Loy Hansen broke ground on the first of a half-dozen regional training centers across Utah and Arizona to be built in the next 2-3 years.  Each $5 million RTC houses a classroom, as well as an indoor and outdoor field, dedicated to fulfilling a curriculum consistent with the club's vision and mission for youth soccer training and education, and the continued development of both recreational and competitive pre-Academy (ages 7-12) initiatives across Utah and Arizona.
