Monarchs Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five Matches

Ricardo Real Monarchs Tulsa

Sandy, Utah (Saturday, September 3, 2016) – Real Monarchs saw a three-game winning streak come to an end, but remained unbeaten in the last five matches with a 1-1 draw against the Tulsa Roughnecks at Rio Tinto Stadium Saturday night.  Tulsa got out to an early lead on a 14th minute goal by Christian Mata, but a remarkable strike from Ricardo Velazco equalized the match in the 37th minute.  Velazco would have a pair of near-misses in the 68th minute, hitting a left-footed shot off the upright and on the return ball from the left side pushing a header just beyond the opposite post.  In stoppage time, Tulsa goalkeeper Jake Feener kept it level when he got his glove to a well-placed rocket from the boot of Amet Ramirez.  With the draw, the Monarchs move to 9-11-6 on the season, tied with Seattle for 10th in the Western Conference.
