News broke yesterday that another RSL player is on the trek back to Utah. Defender Chris Wingert will join the Real Salt Lake squad for the 2016 season. He was previously with NYCFC the last year but was waived and RSL acquired him.

Chris Kamrani of the Salt Lake Tribune was with Real Salt Lake on its trip to Mexico to face Tijuana in a preseason friendly and spoke with Jeff Cassar after the match about the acquisition.

"When we can bring somebody back with Chris' leadership, his versatility - because he can play three different positions along the back line — it gives us depth," Cassar said. "He makes the team better by the way he trains, the way he prepares for games … I think it's going to be a huge piece for us."

Wingert joined MLS back in 2004 when the Columbus Crew picked him up. He then went to the Colorado Rapids before joining RSL in 2007. Wingert was also part of the 2009 squad that won the MLS Cup that year.
