USSF Development Academy weekend preview

With the winter months rolling on, the slate of USSF Development Academy games continues to expand.

Highlighting this weekend’s schedule is the first matchup of two MLS Academies, as Real Salt Lake’s U-16 and U-18 sides travel to Washington State to play Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday.

Each side is at the top of their respective division within the West Conference, and they earlier this week revealed a number of talented players at the U-18 level who will take their talents to various Division 1 programs this fall.

On Saturday, both academies will play other sides – Sounders hosting California’s Arsenal FC, and Real Salt Lake facing Seattle’s other top youth club, Crossfire Premier.

Out East, four Virginia clubs square off, including a Richmond Derby, as the two teams based in Virginia’s capital play each other. The Strikers, who last year entered into an agreement with Arsenal in England, will duke it out with the Kickers, the Academy side of the USL Pro Team.

Both will look to improve their standing in the Atlantic Division of the South Conference at Striker Park in Richmond.

Also tussling in the Commonwealth are Virginia Rush, AJ Auxerre and McLean Youth Soccer down in Virginia Beach, Va. The Rush are in first place in the Atlantic Division at the U-18 level, while McLean is the tops of the U-16s.
