REAL SALT LAKE SCHEDULE: SEPTEMBER 13-18, 2010
RSL Picks Up CONCACAF Champions League Play Wednesday
v. Toronto FC at Rio Tinto Stadium;
Utah Side Looks to Claim MLS Home Unbeaten Streak
Record as Its Own Saturday against Chicago Fire
SANDY, Utah (Sunday, September 12,
2010) – Real Salt
Lake will begin the busiest stretch of its hectic late-season schedule – a
run of six games in 18 days – this week with a pair of pivotal contests
at Rio Tinto Stadium. The challenging run begins this Wednesday,
Sept. 15, when Real Salt Lake welcomes fellow MLS side Toronto FC to
Sandy for Matchweek 3 of the CONCACAF Champions League group stage, and
continues on Saturday, Sept. 18, when the new-look Chicago Fire
will head to Sandy with recent acquisitions Nery Castillo and Freddie Ljungberg
in tow in a match presented by Cricket Wireless.
Tickets
for both contests remain available and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com and www.RioTintoStadium.com, over the
phone at 801-727-2700, and in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box
Office from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on weekdays and on gamedays beginning at
10:00 a.m. MT. Both contests will air on RSL’s official radio partners – ESPN
700 (English), ESPN Deportes 1600-AM and Homero 106.1-FM (Spanish) –
and fans can also follow the club’s official Twitter feed, found at www.twitter.com/RealSaltLake,
for live updates from Sandy.
Wednesday’s match could go a long way
in sorting out who might advance from the CCL’s Group A, as both Real Salt Lake
and Toronto FC and the group’s two other foes – Mexico’s Cruz Azul and
Panamanian side Arabe Unido – all stand tied on three points from 1-1-0
records after their first two contests. Wednesday night’s match is set for
an 8:00 p.m. MT kickoff at Rio Tinto Stadium and can be seen live on Fox
Soccer Channel. This will mark the middle of three meetings in one month’s
time between the two sides, who fought to a 0-0 draw in MLS play at BMO Field
on Aug. 28 and will meet again in CCL action (Matchweek 5) on Sept. 28. First
half goals by DF Jamison Olave (14’) and MF Andy Williams (42’)
helped propel Real Salt Lake to a 2-0 win over the “Reds” in their League
meeting in Sandy back on May 1.
Real Salt Lake (12-4-8, 44 pts.
in MLS play) will then turn its attention back to League action – and, more
specifically, the chase for the MLS Supporters Shield – with a rare Saturday
afternoon matinee at 2:00 p.m. MT against a desperate Chicago Fire
side looking to claw its way into the MLS Cup Playoff picture. In that contest,
which will mark RSL’s season debut on TeleFutura and also will be broadcast on KUSG 2.2 / Comcast 111, the Utah side will be
looking to snatch a piece of MLS history all to itself by becoming the
first-ever MLS team to go 23 straight games at home without a defeat in League
play. RSL evened the 2008-09 Columbus Crew’s mark on 22 games with its 1-0
defeat of the New York Red Bulls the last time out in Sandy on Sept. 4.
