HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, February 22, 2022) – Real Monarchs have signed defender Jasper Loeffelsend to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract ahead of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season, pending league approval.

Over the course of the preseason, Jasper has excelled and proven himself to be a reliable contributor at multiple positions. We look forward to his continued development this year within our organization,” Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.
Loeffelsend, 24, spent all of preseason training with Real Salt Lake as they prepare for their 18th season in Major League Soccer, during which he started in matches against Viking FK and Minnesota United during a preseason tournament in Portland, Oregon last week.
The German-born defender joins Real Monarchs from the University of Pittsburg where he recorded two goals and 18 assists, in 36 appearances. In his junior and senior year, he was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and was also a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist and a two-time member of the All-ACC First Team.
Real Monarchs are set to compete in MLS NEXT Pro for the 2022 season, the schedule for which will be released at a later date. This move comes after seven seasons in the USL Championship, during which the team won the 2019 USL Championship Cup, the 2017 USL Regular Season Shield and the Western Conference Title in both 2017 and 2019, while also qualifying for the postseason in 2018.
