Jefferson Savarino was one of the rising stars for Real Salt Lake in 2017. His dynamic play on the field won over the fans at Rio Tinto Stadium and at just 20 years old was among RSL’s leading contributors with six goals and five assists.
That electric play was on display in an August 23 match against the San Jose Earthquakes when he netted a spectacular goal that is up for the AT&T 2017 MLS Goal of the Year.
With RSL leading 1-0, Savarino took a pass from Albert Rusnák just inside the 18 on the left side. He wheeled his way to his right and turned a bending right-footed shot around three defenders and past the goalkeeper while angling it inside the far post for a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute of a match RSL went on to win 4-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
