Fresh off a dramatic 2-1 Rocky Mountain Cup comeback victory over the Colorado Rapids last weekend, Real Salt Lake now shifts its focus toward another key Western Conference showdown, away against Minnesota United FC. Riding a wave of confidence after winning in three of its last four games, extending its home dominance once again at America First Field, the Claret-and-Cobalt now head to St. Paul looking to close out the opening stretch of the 2026 season with another statement result before the FIFA World Cup break.
Solans, Gozo Continue to Lead RSL’s Young Attack
RSL’s young attacking core once again delivered in Saturday’s rivalry victory over Colorado, with rookie striker Sergi Solans and teenage Utah native Zavier Gozo playing major roles in the comeback win. After Colorado opened the scoring early, Solans helped create the equalizer in the 36th minute, where Gozo buried his finish to level the match at 1-1.
Later in the second half, Solans scored the match-winning goal himself with a powerful header off a perfectly-delivered cross from JuanMa Sanabria.
The victory continued a breakout campaign for both young stars. Gozo’s equalizer marked his sixth goal of the season and fourth in the last four matches, while Solans reached six goals of his own with another powerful header, further showcasing the aerial ability that has quickly made him one of MLS’s most dangerous rookie forwards.
As RSL prepares for another difficult road environment, the attacking chemistry between Solans, Gozo, and USA Wiled Cup hopeful Diego Luna will once again be central to the Club’s expectation to secure points away from home.
Home Confidence Carrying Into Road Challenge
The Claret-and-Cobalt enter Saturday’s contest full of momentum after improving to 7-1-0 (W-L-T) at home this season, extending the Club’s active sellout streak to 13 consecutive matches at America First Field. Under Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni, RSL has now posted a remarkable 15-4-2 (W-L-T) record in its last 21 home matches dating back to June 1, 2025.
While RSL’s home form has helped push the club near the top of the Western Conference standings, the upcoming trip to Minnesota presents another opportunity to prove itself away from Utah against one of the conference’s toughest defensive teams.
Veteran goalkeeper Rafael Cabral continues to anchor the squad defensively, extending his streak of consecutive appearances to 53 straight games, after once again playing every minute in Saturday’s victory over Colorado.
Final Match Before the Break
Saturday’s match carries added importance as Real Salt Lake looks to head into the FIFA World Cup break with momentum and remain firmly positioned near the top of both the Western Conference (third overall) and Supporters Shield (fifth overall) standings. With confidence growing throughout the squad and several young players continuing to emerge, the Claret-and-Cobalt now aim to build off the rivalry victory and secure another strong result on the road, where it has won just once this year (early March at Atlanta).
Against a disciplined Minnesota United FC side, RSL will need another complete performance both defensively and in transition, as the Claret-and-Cobalt aim to close out the opening portion of the season on a high note. The match will stream exclusively on Apple TV, with a 2:30p MT kickoff.
