Stage 2 Re-Entry Draft has Intriguing Possibilities

Kevin Alston New England

The Second Stage of the MLS Re-Entry Draft kicks off Thursday at 1 p.m. MT on a conference call with 44 players eligible for selection.  Real Salt Lake holds the fifth pick in the draft and has plenty of options available if General Manager Craig Waibel and his staff opts to build through returning MLS players.

In the First Stage, FC Dallas traded up to the top spot to select former Portland Timbers forward Maximiliano Urruti and later Sporting Kansas City selected former Chicago Fire goalkeeper Alec Kann.  Those players maintain their prior contracts while clubs selecting players in the Second Stage can negotiate new contracts.

Chris Schuler is the only player from RSL’s 2015 roster eligible for the draft, but there are others with RSL ties on the list.  Chicago Fire defender Lovel Palmer, New York City FC defender Kwame Watson-Siriboe and Toronto FC forward Robbie Findley all could be selected today.

Among the other players of note are goalkeepers Tally Hall and Donovan Ricketts, defenders Jalil Anibaba, Kevin Alston and Roy Miller, midfielder Jackson and forwards Vicente Sanchez and Gabriel Torres.  There are several other young players who could draw interest as well such as Carlos Alvarez, Tony Cascio and Danny Mwanga.
