For the second straight year, Nick Rimando stopped what looked to be a sure goal off the boot of Chris Wondolowski in dramatic fashion. Last season, it was on a ball across the box that Wondolowski got on the end of in front of an open net only to see Rimando close down the space and make the miraculous stop that was a candidate for MLS Save of the Year at yearās end.
The fans at Avaya Stadium were cursing Rimandoās name again on Saturday when he made a remarkable save on Wondolowski in the 17th minute. On the play, Anibal Godoy ripped a shot through traffic from distance. The left-footed shot hit Wondolowski from behind, though, and he gathered the ball unmarked and pushed a shot toward the far post from just inside the penalty spot. Rimando moved to his left to track Godoyās shot, then ranged across to the far side of the net to again sweep up Wondolowkiās effort, covering the whole width of the goal in two-and-a-half seconds to make one of his four saves on the night.
