Saborio climbing Goal of the Year charts

Goal of the Year Saborio

The RSL accolades keep rolling as Alvaro Saborio’s Week 4 goal against Toronto FC is among the 32 goals remaining in the voting for AT&T MLS Goal of the Year.

Sometimes, goals just come from nowhere and Saborio’s chip against Toronto was one of those.  The play started innocuously enough, as World Cup goalkeeper Julio Cesar’s clearance was intercepted in the midfield by Tony Beltran who flipped it to Kyle Beckerman.  There, Beckerman chested the ball to Javier Morales, who floated it over the top of a defender to Saborio ducking in behind.  Off one bounce, Saborio deftly flicked it over Julio Cesar’s reach and it tucked itself into the far corner of the net, leaving the Toronto goalkeeper nothing to do but watch as Saborio’s second goal of the match put the game out of reach in a 3-0 win for RSL.

Voting runs through 12:59 am MT on Saturday with the top two vote-getters in each group will advance to the Semifinal Round.
