RSL U12s invited to Dallas Premier SuperCopa

RSL U12 Sparta Cup

The Real Salt Lake Academy U12 team accepted an invitation to the Dallas Premier SuperCopa, one of the most competitive youth tournaments in the world.  Only 24 teams receive a coveted spot in each age group for SuperCopa.  The trip to Texas will be one of many for the RSL youth as the team will trek to Arizona, Idaho, Minnesota, California, New Jersey and Nevada  in 2015.

The SuperCopa takes place June 5-7, 2015, and will feature the strongest and most diverse boys field from U9 to U12 of any youth tournament in the country.  All games are played at FC Dallas’ championship quality fields in the MoneyGram Soccer Park.  The 138-acre, $31 million soccer facility plays host to the prestigious Dallas Cup for older age groups and the SuperCopa for younger age groups.

The Premier SuperCopa provides the highest level of tournament competition available in the United States for U9-U12 Boys teams.  With nationwide teams being invited, RSL will join fellow MLS Academy teams FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo and Orlando City in testing their development against the nation’s best young players.

In the 2002/03 age group at the 2013 SuperCopa, Pateadores from Costa Mesa, Calif., came away with the title after defeating the Dallas Texans in the final.  The Elite 24 bracket included teams from Florida, California, Arizona, Illinois, Texas, Kansas, Nevada, Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Tennessee.  In the 2012 tournament, the 2002/03 age group saw Solar Castro of Texas North defeat Pateadores for the championship.

RSL U12’s finish their fall season during Thanksgiving weekend at the Soccerloco Surf Thanksgiving Tournament in San Diego California.  Playing both U13 and U12 teams in-state, RSL Academy U12 has a 33-4-5 record thru 42 games in this summer/fall campaign.  The squad currently sits in first place in the Desert Premier League and brought home first place trophies from out-of-state tournaments in California and Connecticut this season.
