SANDY, Utah (Wed., Oct. 14, 2026) – Real Salt Lake (9-14-6, 33 points, 11th West / 20th MLS Shield) drew 1-1 Wednesday with San Jose Earthquakes (13-8-8, 47 points, 5th West / 9th MLS Shield), conceding a last-minute goal to drop points at America First Field.

The midweek game saw Real Salt Lake come out of halftime with a dominant performance, punctuated by a 79th-minute goal for Canadian World Cup centerback Luc de Fougerolles, making his home debut and providing his second goal contribution in as many games. Unfortunately, a stoppage-time goal from San Jose’s Jack Jasinski tied the game late for the final 1-1 scoreline.

RSL Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni made three changes to the starting lineup following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Subaru Park. 21-year-old Canadian international de Fougerolles made his first-ever RSL / MLS start, replacing former USMNT defender DeAndre Yedlin. Uruguayan international JuanMa Sanabria replaced veteran defender Sam Junqua, and Georgian international Saba Lobjanidze in place of RSL academy product Aiden Hezarkhani.

Late in the first half, Morgan Guilavogui saw his shot from outside the penalty area force the Earthquakes’ goalkeeper into a quick stop to his right to keep the game level at 0-0.

At the start of the second half, RSL looked to capitalize on an early mistake from the Earthquakes, with strong midfield play sending the ball out wide for Sanabria, who whipped a dangerous cross into the penalty area. German-born midfielder Noel Caliskan ran into the box and shot a powerful header, forcing the San Jose ā€˜keeper down to his right side to deny RSL the lead.

Moments later, Guilavogui’s wide-open look from the top of the penalty box saw the chance caught calmly by Angus Gunn. A second scoring opportunity fell to the head of rookie phenom Sergi Solans, who nearly scored the opener off another threatening cross swung in by Sanabria.

One of the best scoring chances of the night fell to Kobi Henry, who attempted a sliding volley from five yards out off a cross flung in by Caliskan. Henry’s effort had the Earthquakes goalkeeper rooted to the ground but the ball flew inches over the crossbar. RSL kept up the momentum with a powerful, low-driven shot from Lobjanidze that stung the hands of Gunn.

In the 79th minute, Hezarkhani played the ball into Sanabria, who was waiting near the edge of the box. The Uruguayan international turned quickly out wide to lay the ball off to de Fougerolles, who hammered home a driven shot into the bottom corner for the apparent game-winner.

At the last possible second, San Jose found an equalizer five minutes into stoppage time off a first-time volley by Jack Jasinski to level the game at 1-1.

Real Salt Lake now head to Sporting Park this Saturday, October 17, in a Western Conference rivalry match against Sporting Kansas City. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. MT, streaming on Apple TV.
