RSL Sees Six Under Club Umbrella Named to U.S. Youth National Teams

HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, January 6, 2023) – This week six players within the Real Salt Lake ecosystem have been named to various United States Youth National Team rosters.

RSL Homegrown goalkeeper **Gavin Beavers** has been selected for his fourth consecutive call up to the U.S. U-19 side by Head Coach Marko Mitrovic. Beavers,17, has been one of the youngest players to appear for Mitrovic in each of his call-ups.

In his first season as a Homegrown Player with Real Salt Lake Beavers made 40 saves in 15 matches for the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro side, Real Monarchs. The young goalkeeper also recently spent time with the U-20 side of Crystal Palace in England’s Premier League as part of an off season training stint.

Recent Real Monarchs signee forward Zavier Gozo has earned yet another call up to the U.S. U-16 side. Gozo recently competed with the Red, White and Blue at the U-16 Football Federations Cup in Spain where he was named the joint winner of the Golden Boot for his goals against England and Wales.

Before signing with the Monarchs Gozo proved to be a prolific goal scorer for the RSL Academy, scoring 20 goals at the U-15 level and earning the MLS NEXT Cup Golden Boot award for helping his team advance to the MLS NEXT Cup Final. This year with the U-17s Gozo has netted 10 goals in 10 games for the Claret-and-Cobalt.

Finally, new Real Monarchs signing Luca Moisa and a trio of RSL Academy players, including Omar Marquez, Axel Uriostegui and Juan Gio Villa, have been named to the U.S. U-15 side. This is the second straight call up for the quartet, having previously been selected for a Domestic Training Camp in Kansas City, Kansas.

Marquez currently leads the U-15s with five goals and five assists this season, all of which contributed to victories for the Claret-and-Cobalt. Moisa has also recorded two assists thus far, assisting Khododad Panahi in finding the opening goal in the team’s 2-1 victory over Colorado Rapids, and helping Armani Haro secure a brace against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Meanwhile, Uriostegui and Villa have each netted a goal apiece so far this season. Uriostegui scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders, while Villa scored the third goal in the 3-1 win at San Jose Earthquakes.

Utah’s Major League Soccer side returns this month, as RSL’s preseason preparations in California and Arizona advance the Club’s 19th regular-season kickoff on Saturday, February 25 at Vancouver to kick off the 28th MLS campaign. RSL’s 2023 home opener is slated for Saturday, March 11 against Austin FC.
