RSL Scoreless for Third Consecutive Match in 2-0 Loss at Seattle, Extends Winless Run to 13 Straight

SEATTLE (Wed., Sept. 23, 2026) – Real Salt Lake (8-13-5 29 points, 12th West / 23rd MLS Shield) suffered a 2-0 loss at Seattle Sounders FC (8-9-8, 32 points, 10th West / 20th MLS Shield) Wednesday night at Lumen Field, the setback extending the Utah side’s Club-record winless streak to 13 consecutive games in Major League Soccer action. 

For a third consecutive match, RSL was unable to find the back of the net, extending its scoreless streak to 284 minutes and counting. Despite suffering three consecutive shutouts for the first time since April 2023, RSL did see the MLS / RSL debut for Real Monarchs regular Liam O’Gara, coming on in the 88th minute to become RSL all-time player No. 244 in the Club’s 22-year history. 

RSL Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni made five personnel changes to tonight’s starting XI following the 3-0 home loss to Western Conference power Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday. For the 13th time in 16 matches, an RSL Academy product made the start, as 18-year-old Luca Moisa slotted in as one of the 10s alongside Designated Player Morgan Guilavogui. After Greek DF Alex Katranis suffered an adductor injury during pre-game warmups, 22-year-old centerback Kobi Henry slotted in back, pushing Sam Junqua - making his first start since August 29 at Colorado due to a concussion suffered in that match - to the left wing position usually occupied by Uruguayan standout JuanMa Sanabria, absent due to international duty. Polish MF Dominik Marczuk slotted in opposite of Junqua as right wingback.

Rounding out the changes was veteran MF Stijn Spierings, making his first start and appearance since suffering a high ankle sprain on August 25 in the Leagues Cup Quarterfinal against León. 

The Claret-and-Cobalt got off to a patient start, working together defensively and bringing the ball up the pitch as the game allowed, earning a few attacking opportunities through the first quarter of the match. As Seattle threatened inside the 18-yard-box, it was none other than veteran DF DeAndre Yedlin, the former Sounder man in his homecoming, who came up big to block a shot in the center of the box in the 17th minute. 

While RSL was able to work the ball up the pitch, the first half was a mostly defensive battle. After a stretch of near opportunities for the home side, it was DF Philip Quinton who stepped up, making a key block just inside the box in the 26th minute. Just before halftime, rookie striker Solans earned the visitors’ best shot of the half, showcasing some tight footwork before sending his shot just wide of the goal. 

Real Salt Lake came into the second half with energy, bringing the ball into its offensive end just seconds in. In the 47th minute, Solans found himself one-on-one with the ‘keeper, his touch allowing the Seattle ‘keeper to get a hand on the ball before he could put a shot on frame.  

Immediately thereafter, it was Seattle who capitalized off of the missed RSL opportunity to take a 1-0 lead early in the second half, as former RSL man Danny Musovski netted the goal. In the 64th minute, RSL Captain and goalkeeper Rafael Cabral kept the home side from doubling the lead, stretching to stop the ball as it bounded towards the goal.

After a difficult defensive period, the home side went up 2-0 in the 73rd minute, with yet another former RSL player, midfielder Albert Rusnák, finding the back of the net to double the lead and determine the final margin. In the 88th minute, Real Monarchs D/M Liam O’Gara made his MLS and RSL debut, entering the match for German-born MF Noel Caliskan, the personal milestone for the young player and the highlight of the evening for the visitors. 

With the Claret-and-Cobalt unable to earn a result and the final score at 2-0, RSL has now suffered three straight shutouts for the first time since April 2023, extending the Club’s winless streak to 13 consecutive matches, breaking the record set during the 2005 expansion season. 

Real Salt Lake now returns to the Wasatch Front for its fourth Saturday match of September, welcoming Eastern Conference side New England Revolution this weekend. Kickoff for that match is slated for 7:30 p.m. MT with tickets available for purchase here.

SEA: Danny Musovski (Paul Arriola) 48’: After receiving the ball central Arriola took a touch before sending the ball out right for Musovski who’s right footed shot from just outside the 18-yard-box went into the bottom right corner of the net. 

SEA: Albert Rusnák (Paul Arriola) 73’: With a change in possession Seattle moved the ball up the pitch quickly. Arriola took the ball closer to the box before sending a pass to Rusnák who sent a right footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

• RSL now has an overall road winless run of 12 games across all competitions (11 MLS, 1 Leagues Cup neutral site against Leon in Colorado). 

• RSL has not won away from home since March 7 at Atlanta, dropping its road record in 2026 to 1-9-4 (W-L-T). 

• The Claret-and-Cobalt now own an active 284-minute scoreless run, since M/F Saba Lobjanidze last equalized in the 74th minute at Houston on Sept. 9 

• Real Salt Lake now sits with a 13-game winless streak in MLS play, the longest in club history, its last win came prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup on May 16 (2-1 v Colorado). 

• During the 214-game Mastroeni era, RSL has now dropped back-to-back matches on 25 occasions. 

• With his substitution tonight, Liam O’Gara made his MLS debut and became RSL all-time player No. 244 in club history. 

• RSL Academy homegrown Luca Moisa departs for U.S. U-19 Youth National team camp Thursday, while Trinidadian defender Kobi Henry and U.S. U-20 Youth international Colin Guske depart Sunday, following the New England match

• Canadian World Cup DF Luc de Fougerolles has received his P-1 visa, and will be eligible for selection when RSL resumes MLS play on Oct. 10 at Philadelphia following the current FIFA international window

• RSL still awaits the P-1 visa approval for 19-year-old Serbian winger Dašan Žagar, signed on Sept. 2 at the close of the summer transfer window
