HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, October 5, 2021) – The Real Salt Lake Academy trio of goalkeeper Fernando Delgado, defender Gershon Henry and midfielder Jude Wellings have been named to the U17 United States National team for the team’s upcoming training camp in Chula Vista, California.
This marks the second National Team call up in the last month for Delgado who recently trained with the Mexico National Team. As a Mexican-American Delgado is eligible for both national team contingents and can continue to do so until he reaches the senior level. The goalkeeper has appeared in every match this season for the U17 RSL Academy and in the United Premier Soccer League games, while also training with the Real Monarchs.
Meanwhile, this is the first international camp for Henry and Wellings, both of whom were part of the 2021 U15 MLS NEXT Championship team. Both natives of Michigan, the duo joined the Academy in 2020 and have quickly become pivotal players in the success of the program, earning training time with the Real Monarchs.
The RSL Academy returns to MLS NEXT plays this Saturday, October 9 when they host Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Zions Bank Training Facility on Field 2.
