This past weekend the Real Salt Lake Academy returned back home to Zions Bank Real Academy to face off against the San Francisco Glens in MLS NEXT regular season play.

The U-17 side came out controlling the tempo of the game and held possession for the majority of the first half. Despite multiple successful attacking runs and shots on goal Real Salt Lake failed to find the back of the net by the end of the first half. In the 81st minute Josiah Martinez scored a late goal from a well placed pass by Luca Moisa, who has recently been called up from the U-15 side. Seven minutes later Jackson Stokes made a low cross into the box and connected with Josiah Martinez for the forward’s second goal. Both Gershon Henry and Brayden Morrell were able to secure the backline and hold San Francisco scoreless for the entire game resulting in a 2-0 win for the U-17s.

With a barrage of goals coming in the first half of the match, the U-15 side got off to an impressive start. In the 6th minute Peter Beyene took the ball into the box himself and notched the first goal of the match. Three minutes later Peter scored again on an assisted through ball from Antonio Riquelme. Peter Beyene continued to have a successful game when he notched himself an assist from a cross to Van Parker who scored off the volley in the 15th minute. RSL struck the ball between the posts once more in the 36th minute when Antonio Riquelme scored off a Javier Martinez assist and ended the first half up 4-0.

In the second half of the match the U-15s continued their impressive performance. In the 55th minute Khodadad Panahi scored and three minutes later Linkon Ream connected with Armani Haro who came off the bench to notch the RSL’s sixth goal of the game, giving the team a substantial lead. Due to the aggressive attacking play of RSL, San Francisco deflected a cross from Linkon Ream into their own goal. The U-15s kept the sheet clean and held possession for the majority of the game resulting in a 7-0 win.

What’s Next: The Real Salt Lake Academy looks to continue their good form when they face off against the LAFC and LA Galaxy academies at home this coming weekend.
