Rocky Mountain Cup: What's on the Line and How Have They Fared?

When Real Salt Lake joined MLS in 2005, there was a natural regional rival in the Colorado Rapids.

The supporters of the two clubs joined together prior to the first meeting in April of 2005 and set out to legitimize and incentivize the rivalry with a trophy – the Rocky Mountain Cup.

Through the years, the two sides have battled it out for club pride and the honor of their respective supporters and after handing the trophy to the Rapids in the first two years of competition, Real Salt Lake’s supporters have taken home the cup in eight of the last 10 years.  On Saturday, they will meet for the first of three matches as RSL looks to defend its regional dominance at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
