Rimando tops among MLS goalkeepers after a week of All-Star voting

Nick Rimando has taken an early lead in MLS All-Star voting and Kyle Beckerman is closing in on a midfield nod.


The Real Salt Lake duo highlight a Who’s Who of Major League Soccer that are listed among the top vote-getters in MLS All-Star Fan XI balloting through the first week of polling.  Voting ends at 1 p.m. MT on July 3 and fans can cast votes three different ways – online balloting; through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; and EA Sports FIFA 15 voting.


The top vote-getters are as follows:


Goalkeeper (1)
Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders FC), Jaime Penedo (LA Galaxy), Tim Melia (Sporting Kansas City).


Defenders (3)
Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Brek Shea (Orlando City SC), DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo), Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders FC).


Midfielders (4)
Kaka (Orlando City SC), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake).


Forwards (2 – a 3rd FWD will be added through the EA Sports FIFA 15 Voting)
Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Obafemi Martins (Seattle Sounders FC), David Villa (New York City FC), Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC), Kei Kamara (Columbus Crew SC).


The All-Star Game, with the best of MLS meeting Tottenham Hotspur, will be July 29 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
