Real Salt Lake Takes On Defending MLS Cup Champions Toronto FC -

Player to Watch – Sebastian Giovinco has 55 goals and 37 assists in 88 matches since coming to MLS in 2015.  After winning the MLS MVP and Newcomer of the Year awards in 2015, he led Toronto to the MLS Cup final in 2016 and 2017.  As dangerous as he is on the ball, he is perhaps most threatening when standing over free kicks in the attacking third, scoring six goals of his 16 goals in 2017 off of direct free kicks, an MLS record.

Matchup to Watch – Jozy Altidore vs. Justen Glad – The U.S. National Team’s third all-time leading scorer (behind co-leaders Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan) against a rising center back that aspires to don the Stars and Stripes.  Glad will combine with Marcelo Silva to attempt to keep Altidore (and the rest of TFC’s attack) at bay.  Altidore provides a different sort of challenge compared with other MLS strikers, but Glad has shown an ability to adapt to the diverse array of forwards in the league.

All-Time Record – Real Salt Lake is 8-5-3 all-time against Toronto FC, but just 1-4-2 at BMO Field.

Last 5 Head-to-Head – RSL leads 3-1-1, including the club’s only all-time win at BMO Field in 2013.  Salt Lake has outscored Toronto 6-2 in those five matches.

Last 5 Overall – Toronto is 2-1-1 in CONCACAF Champions League play, advancing to the semifinal round to face Club America starting on Tuesday.  In MLS play, TFC is winless at 0-2-0 after shutout losses against Columbus Crew SC and the Montreal Impact.
