Real Salt Lake Players Set for Short-Term Training Stints in Europe

HERRIMAN, Utah (Monday, October 31, 2022) – Real Salt Lake, Real Monarchs and the Real Salt Lake Academy have announced 15 players will be going out for short-term training stints with five teams that are all part of the David Blitzer Global Football Holdings network.

Players from every level of the Club will spend time overseas on short-term training stints with ADO Den Haag (Netherlands, Eerste Divisie), Crystal Palace (England, Premier League), G.D. Estoril Praia (Portugal, Primeira Liga), FC Augsburg (Germany, Bundesliga) and SK Beveren (Belgium, Belgian First Division B).

Real Monarchs midfielder Christian Nydegger and defender Bobby Pierre will spend two weeks training with the U-21s at ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands.

Goalkeepers Fernando Delgado (Real Monarchs) and Gavin Beavers (Real Salt Lake), both products of the Real Salt Lake Academy, will travel with Real Monarchs Goalkeeper Coach Mirza Harambasic to Crystal Palace in England.

Meanwhile, Real Monarchs midfielders Gennaro Nigro and Benjamin Rodriguez are set to train with G.D. Estoril Praia in Portugal.

RSL Homegrown Jude Wellings along with Real Monarchs forward Terron Williams and RSL Academy midfielder Izzy Amparo will train at FC Augsburg in Germany.

And finally, RSL Homegrown defenders Zack Farnsworth, Bode Hidalgo and Jaziel Orozco, along with Real Monarchs defender Aziz Kayondo will spend time in Belgium with SK Beveren.

The international training sessions are yet another step in furthering the partnerships between the Blitzer-owned soccer clubs, with the players gaining invaluable experience while training with all but one club inside the network.

Real Salt Lake has already enjoyed the benefits of being part of the Blitzer Global Football Holdings network with the loan of 2022 RSL Golden Boot winner, Sergio Cordova coming to Utah from FC Augsburg. The Club also completed the sale of midfielder Everton Luiz to the Belgium-based club.

During the first week of January, 2022, the RSL compendium of properties was acquired by global sports entrepreneur David Blitzer – who boasts interests in the Philadelphia 76ers (NBA), the New Jersey Devils (NHL), the Cleveland Guardians (MLB) and six European soccer entities, including Crystal Palace (England), FC Augsburg (Germany), Estoril (Portugal), ADO Den Haag (Netherlands), Alcorcón (Spain) and SK Beveren (Belgium). The Blitzer group partners with Utah-based Smith Entertainment Group, led by Ryan Smith, which owns the Utah Jazz (NBA).
