SANDY, Utah (Tues., Aug. 11, 2026) – Real Salt Lake (8-6-3, 27 points, 5th West / 9th Shield MLS) earned its second consecutive Leagues Cup clean sheet, defeating Liga MX side FC Juarez (0-3-0, 0 points, 18th Liga MX) with an impressive 3-0 victory to finish out Phase One in dominant fashion in front of a home crowd of 14,099 fans at America First Field.
French-born Designated Player Morgan Guilavogui gave RSL the first-half lead with a 29th-minute penalty after securing his second 2026 goal across all competitions (MLS, international friendly, Leagues Cup), while rookie Spanish striker Sergi Solans netted his third goal in four games and second in as many matches. Another MLS rookie, newly-signed Lineker Rodrigues, capped off the evening in the 68th minute, scoring his first-career MLS goal.
RSL Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni made five personnel changes and one positional shift to the starting XI following Saturday’s dominant 4-0 victory over Atlante FC. Guilavogui moved up top, leading the attacking trio of playmaker Diego Luna and Lineker, making his second start of 2026. Argentine MF Pablo Ruiz earned his second start in the three-game week after scoring his first two goals in three years in the last seven days.
Rounding out the changes for the early-week match was a new trio in the back, as veteran DF DeAndre Yedlin joined Philip Quinton and Sam Junqua, who would look to work in front of RSL Captain and Iron Man Rafael Cabral in his 60th consecutive RSL start to secure points in the squad's third home match of five in a congested 15-day span.
The Claret-and-Cobalt started the match with energy, in the seventh minute, as World Cup standout JuanMa Sanabria sent a well-placed cross over top of the defense and into the box for Guilavogui, whose header was narrowly saved over the crossbar. RSL continued to push into the offensive third with Yedlin ripping a shot from deep, following a deflected free kick in the 22nd minute, the defender’s shot narrowly slipping over the crossbar.
After FC Juarez conceded a handball in the box in the 28th minute, the home side was awarded a penalty. Guilavogui stepped up to the spot and powerfully sent the ball into the top right corner to give the Claret-and-Cobalt the 1-0 lead, bringing Guilavogui to four straight matches with a goal or assist.
As the second half began, Mastroeni made his first substitutions of the match, bringing in 2026 RSL Golden Boot leader Solans and MF Noel Caliskan for Spierings and Guilavogui. The pair immediately made their presence known, with Caliskan sending a ball into the middle of the box for Solans in the 53rd minute. Solans showcased his skill with the ball at his feet, taking an impressive turn and touch around his defender before doubling RSL’s lead. The score by the Spaniard marks his third goal in four August matches, and his 11th of the year across all competitions (7 MLS, 2 Burnley, 2 Leagues Cup).
In the 56th minute, Cabral showcased his abilities, making a save directly in front of the goal to keep the visitors off the scoresheet. After thwarting multiple attempts by Juarez, the Claret-and-Cobalt moved the ball up the pitch with ease until Caliskan set things in motion once again, passing the ball towards the goal line for Yedlin. The veteran sent a one touch shot into the center of the box for Rodrigues whose first career MLS goal was a perfectly placed left-footed shot to put the home side up 3-0.
While RSL conceded a penalty in the 75th minute, the home side was able to keep the clean sheet after Columbian striker Oscar Estupiñan sent the ball over the goal. With a second consecutive shutout and dominant victory, RSL now sits with seven points in the tournament, setting itself up for a chance of advancing into the Leagues Cup quarterfinal following favorable results over the next two matchdays.
