RSL saw the majority of possession and chances on goal in the first half of play with the best opportunity from the first 45 minutes falling at the feet of FW Corey Baird. The rookie broke in on goal where he broke into the penalty area with only the goalkeeper to beat but his effort narrowly missed the far post and kept the scoreline 1-0 at the interval.

The second stanza opened in favor of RSL as Kreilach headed home the opening goal in the 50th minute on the back of a flicked header from FW Corey Baird. San Jose would bring the match level in the 66th minute through striker Danny Hoesen when his clipped effort from a rebounded shot beat GK Nick Rimando.

RSL nearly found the winner during second half stoppage time when MF Albert Rusnák swung in yet another corner that found the head of DF Marcelo Silva who skipped the ball against the crossbar and out as time expired.

GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:

RSL: Damir Kreilach (Corey Baird, Albert Rusnak), 54th minute – A corner kick swung in towards the near post from Rusnak found the head of Baird who flicked his header towards the center of the six-yard box. The header found a wide-open Damir Kreilach who headed home with ease for the game’s opening goal.

SJ: Danny Hoesen, 64th minute – A blasted shot from outside the area forced RSL netminder Nick Rimando into a save with which he parried back out in front of him. Hoesen did well to follow the shot and clip the rebound into the net for tying goal.

KEY SAVES AND DEFENSIVE STOPS:
RSL: Danilo Acosta, 55th minute: As San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski found space inside the RSL penalty area, Acosta did well to track back to not allow Wondolowski a free shot on goal. Acosta’s sliding block turned the ball past the post and out for a corner kick.
