Head-to-Head: Real Salt Lake carries a 15-18-10 all-time record against the Galaxy into the midweek clash, most recently finishing with a 2-2 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium on Wednesday, July 21 with goals from Maikel Chang and Albert Rusnak.

Stories to Watch:

Four Score

Heading into the midweek match, Real Salt Lake is currently tied for the fourth-fewest losses in the Western Conference having only lost on four occasions. Only the top-of-the-table Seattle Sounders have lost less than RSL. Additionally, Real Salt Lake has allowed the fourth-fewest goals in the entire league.

150 for All

Against Houston Dynamo FC on July 31, goalkeeper Zac MacMath recorded his 150th appearance in Major League Soccer to become the third on RSL’s current roster to do so. MacMath’s teammate, defender Justen Glad is rapidly approaching the same mark, having played in 141 regular-season matches. Glad will miss Wednesday’s match due to a red card suspension received against Houston. Up until that point he was the only RSL player to play every minute of every match thus far in 2021.

Western Conference Competition

LA Galaxy’s last match resulted in a commanding 4-1 win over Portland Timbers who Real Salt Lake will face on Saturday, August 7 at Providence Park. It was the first time the team had scored four goals in a single match this season, and it came following a 4-0 loss to FC Dallas, who RSL tied 2-2 with, proving once again just how competitive the league and the Western Conference can be on any given week.

Connections: Following his retirement from professional soccer in 2008, LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg Vanney joined the RSL Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona where he served as the technical director from 2008-2011.

Former RSL Homegrown defender Danilo Acosta now applies his trade with the Galaxy where he signed prior to the 2020 season. While with RSL, the left back made 29 appearances in MLS to accompany 26 appearances in the USL Championship. Acosta missed the entire 2020 MLS season after suffering a torn ACL during preseason. He made his LA Galaxy debut on July 24 at FC Dallas.

RSL Assistant Coach Pablo Mastroeni played his final MLS season with the Galaxy in 2013.
