Real Monarchs SLC Welcomes OKC Energy FC to Zions Bank Stadium

HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, August 29, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC (10-8-5, 35 points, 5 West) is set to host OKC Energy FC at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday, August 30 with kickoff from Herriman scheduled for 8:00 p.m. MT. The matchcan be seen live on ESPN+.


“College Colors Night” highlights Friday night’s contest where fans are encouraged to attend the night’s match wearing their favorite college colors to show who they believe is the best school in town. Students can purchase tickets for just $5 with their Student ID card at the box office. Family Packs that include 4 tickets and 4 Real Monarchs hats are also available for purchase for only $32. The Monarchs suffered a road loss against Orange County SC in its last outing as the California side found two goals before the half-time break and then added a third shortly after the opening whistle of the second stanza. While the Monarchs had some strong chances through MF Maikel Chang and Jack Blake throughout the night, it was DF Kalen Ryden that found the lone Monarchs goal with his second of the season after putting away a headed effort.
Real Monarchs now turns its attention back home when it hosts OKC Energy FC for the second bout between the two of the 2019 season. The two last met back in mid-May, where some late heroics from RSL FW Tate Schmitt stole a point at the death with a goal in the second-half stoppage time. Both Real Monarchs and OKC Energy FC now sit just a point apart from each other the Western Conference Table as the two sides fight to secure a playoff position.

Moving into the second half of the 2019, Real Monarchs SLC has seen 16 unique players tally a goal in a Monarchs jersey. The attacking front is led by Honduran International FW Douglas Martinez, who recorded the club’s first hat-trick in the dominant 5-0 victory over Tacoma Defiance on July 12, pushing his goal count to ten and six assists in 17 games played. Meanwhile, MF Maikel Chang and Team Captain Jack Blake continues to provide a meaningful presence in the midfield providing a combined 15 goals and 3 assists as of August 28.
In front goal, USL Veteran DF Noah Powder has made himself a mainstay on the backline with 20 starts and appearance so far this season. Pairedwith fellow defenders, Kalen Ryden, Jordan Pena, and Konrad Plewa, the Monarchs backline has begun to solidify and limiting the opposing attack to help in pushing Real Monarchs up the Western Conference to secure a playoff position.
In goal, U-20 USMNT star GK David Ochoa leads the Monarchs with three clean sheets and 46 saves in 12 appearances. Ochoa returned to Utah after featuring in two matches of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he tallied one shutout and was named to the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game roster. GK Andrew Putna has also made appearances in goal for the Monarchs this season, tallying three clean sheets and 15 saves in seven appearances for the club.
