FENTON, Missouri (Saturday, June 16, 2018) – Real Monarchs SLC (11-3-1, 34 points 1 West) held off Saint Louis FC 1-0 on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Toyota Stadium in Missouri. A standout performance from GK Connor Sparrow and a penalty kick goal from FW Chandler Hoffman were enough for the league-leaders to claim the full three points.

The Monarchs took the lead in the 15th minute when DF David Horst was brought down inside the penalty area on a set piece, giving the visitors a penalty kick. Hoffman stepped up to the spot to dispatch his fourth goal in his last four matches. Despite scoring first in the match, the Monarchs were forced to defend several Saint Louis chances in the first half. MF Justin Portillo did well to head away a world-class clearance off the goal line to keep the hosts off the board and the score in favor of the Monarchs entering the break.

An offensive onslaught from Saint Louis told the story of the second half with the Monarchs only chances coming from opportunities on the break. DF. Andrew Brody held the best scoring chance of the second half, but his curling effort ended up in the outstretched arms of Saint Louis goalkeeper Tomas Gomez.

The Monarchs would hold off a late match push that saw the hosts pepper the goal, but Sparrow held firm to keep the scoreline 1-0 and secure the club’s 11th victory in 2018.
